It seems that on more than one occasion that some people think Vidders.net competes with the OTW for money. Almost like Vidders.net is Ralph Nader type site in a presidential election stealing votes from the main Democratic nominee - the OTW. It's almost as if it can't be looked at for it's own merits without comparison. It is ironic we feel for anyone to have the OTW be the reason for not supporting a particular viddng community because we think the OTW would support any community that supports vidding. How did this become mutually exclusive? We understand a person's choice based on the merits but when someone says in essence you are doomed to fail how is that supportive? We have enough doubts and insecurities about our own labors of love to get any outside help. Is it really necessary to disparage a new initiative in the realm of vidding? The attempt made by those creating something could be considered noble even if misguided but certainly not detrimental in intent. And who knows how it will turn out. It may even be beyond what we know from our past experience. Maybe the most critical factor that determines whether something will work out is people believing it can. Already the site has raised enough money to pay for it's premium service, continues to grow, is very active and has a substantial membership from members on LJ. Remarks like this can leave one feeling like "why even bother at all?" when those who one would think would support you say your efforts are not even worth it. It's certainly not the way we would like our friends to talk about what we do when we vid.The end of the year is coming and we at vidders.net who have to account for the possible storage cost of 20k vids and the work it takes to run the network are asking for support to the tune of less than 85 cents a month to upload 6 -200 vids. This is really not a big deal with everyone chipping in. However, this fact it seems puts us in direct competition with the OTW for some people on LJ. It's as if you couldn't have both. Or even worse some variation of "you have no business doing something the OTW is planning to do much better" Like what we've spent a year on is just one big waste of time when compared to something that is not even a fair comparison and at best a comparison to be made a year or two down the road.

We forgot to mention another piece of major news about the site. If you are a current member you will be able to sign in with one click if you have an existing Facebook, Google, or Yahoo account. Now what I will say is very important which is why I prefaced it. IF you are already a member of BAM Vid Vault or Vidders.net DO NOT Sign "up" all over again by using these options. Sign in the usual way and then go to your Settings > Connections area and first link your current account with either your Facebook, Google, or Yahoo account. After doing this you can now sign "in" with those one click options going forward. If you have never been a member of BAM or Vidders.net then Sign "Up" with those options and sign back in using them anytime you want. You will not need to connect to an existing account because you never had one. If you have any questions feel free to leave comments. There is planned Twitter integration but it is in the works. Hopefully this will make it easier for people to join without having to create a whole other username and password.

The site has had a makeover. The destination page at vidders.net been streamlined to be an introduction to the site with basic information, instructions on how to join and a simple contact form. There are also several screenshoots to display some of the features of the site. This may allow us to make the site more private and yet still accessible. This a very drastic change in appearance that we hope will generate interest and generate more connections. Update: The front page for members is still very much available and relevant to existing members.Already we got some feedback about creating an option for members to connect through Dreamwidth and it is something we plan on adding soon as we just created a community on there.

Uploaded February 10, 2010 This is another amazing find over at the vidders.net site. A video that uses the actors from Harry Potter in a World War II setting. The vidder for this video. has several paragraphs of storyline to explain the vid that may give it richer meaning. I will just quote a little bit of her description "I wanted to try something that i've never seen before ...something more related to history." It is really an amazing video for its scope. Check it out after the cut.
If you haven't joined vidders.net yet you're invited to. It's free for viewers and if you want to upload a few vids. We are asking for $10 from uploaders to support the future cost of storage which so far we have been able to avoid as we grow and develop the site. However, we welcome donations if you are not uploading. We are adding new features all the time and the site and its videos are being mentioned and used in academic studies and scholarly research on vidding. In fact, we just got a professor from a university contact us about it. We are not going to stop doing what we can to make this the ultimate vidding community and welcome any help & support in making that happen whether it's financial or not. Check out this amazing vid after the cut

This is yet one of the many vids that got saved on the Bam Vid Vault/Vidders.net network thing. According to the description this is a video that got removed from You Tube the moment it was uploaded so it's great that it found a home at the site. Originally uploaded November 5, 2009.
Vidders.net is the vidding community formerly known as BAM Vid Vault and this is a community journal on LJ that is affiliated with it. We are very lucky that we are where we are today and we have come a long way. If things had gone a certain way and Reese didn't get to Sarah Connor in time a community with over 20,000 vids would have been a footnote. Right now the opposite is happening. The site is growing and there is daily activity on the site and people continuing to join every single week. The video that is part of this post is one of the sheer rewards of spending hours and hours working on the site. This is just one of the many gems that make up the catalog of videos there that is probably larger than Prince's.
I hope to lay down certain facts about the site so there is no confusion. The site is still free. We have chosen to ask for support from members who upload videos past 5. Viewers are free to watch but can donate if they want to. We are asking $10 which is a little less than 85 cents a month for vidders to upload 6 - 200 vids. It should not be viewed strictly on its financial terms because that is a joke. It really is a vote of confidence for one of the only vidder friendly streaming sites run by vidders. Even so we are offering features to those who contribute like the ability to embed. This does not effect all the embeds that have been posted over the year and a half BAM has been around but future vids. There have been a lot of improvements to the site that one will probably never see on You Tube, Vimeo, or blip.tv. and here they are:

I joined Ning around April 23, 2008. In fact, one of my first communities was an X Files Vidding Community that is still up. I liked what Ning had to offer and was looking to branch out and create a multifandom site. I started creating one and realized BAM already had momentum so I begged to join in as an admin. Everything went well for the most part with one of the owners but I think it can be said by all parties involved that when the other owner got involved shortly there after I was no longer admin. I created my own joint as Spike Lee would say at Vidders.netCreaors
I took my time to add a lot of the features I developed over at BAM slowly improved on them. In my education, about platform I joined creators.ning.com I got to meet other Network Creators and discovered all sorts of neat tips & tricks. If there were any new features or announcements Creators was the place you were likely to here about it first which brings us to the point of this article.
